Chris Smyth Music

Biography

Chris finds writing biographies much harder than writing lyrics. He’s written lots of songs, from poetic waltzes through to angsty, drum heavy, rockout tracks. He plays them live, sometimes by himself, sometimes with other friendly, talented folks and often in front of an audience.

Being based in the South East means he has played the usual London venues like the Betsey Trotwood (“starting place for…”), loads of places around Cambridge (for all those clever studenty types), and a host of other venues and festivals around the UK. He has especially enjoyed playing with people he has grown up hearing about: people like Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford and talented young folksters like Cara Dillon and Seth Lakeman.

When he isn’t playing live Chris spends time making albums and is on his third one at the moment.

Chris has a musical heritage with a dad who recorded The Undertones’ Teenage Kicks in the 70s and a mum whose vocals have been compared to Annie Lennox (she does a mean ‘Danny Boy’). Chris’ influences are broad but Neil Young, Nick Drake, Elliot Smith and Wilco are biggies.

Chris has a website (which you're on). If you like his tunes then visit the listen page (If you really like them you can download a whole album for FREE at www.numbersandtitles.com). If you want to come and see him perform in person see the gigs page. If he doesn't have any gigs planned join the mailing list and we'll keep you posted.
